What you need

  • To Dye For Yarn, dyed to your preferred colour
  • 4.5mm Crochet Hook
  • Stitch Markers
  • Yarn Needle

Abbreviations

  • Sc – single crochet
  • Inc – increase
  • Dec – decrease
  • Dc – double crochet
  • Sl st – slip stitch

*Rounds can be completed by slip stitching after each row or marking beginning of rows and working continuously around.

R1 – 6sc in magic ring
R2 – 6 inc. 12 sts
R3 – (sc, inc) 6 times. 18 sts
R4 – (sc, inc, sc) 6 times. 24
R5 – (3sc, inc) 6 times. 30
R6 – (2sc, inc, 2sc) 6 times. 36
R7-R11 – 36sc. 36
R12 – (2sc, dec, 2sc) 6 times. 30
R13 – (3sc, dec) 6 times. 24
R14 – (2sc, dec) 6 times. 18
Sl st and fasten off. Place eyes around R9 and about 6 sts apart. Stuff head.

Body

R1 – 8sc in magic ring
R2 – 8 inc. 16
R3 – (sc, inc) 8 times. 24
R4 – (3sc, inc) 6 times. 30
R5 – (2sc, inc, 2sc) 6 times. 36
R6-R8 – 36 sc
R9 – (2 sc, dec, 2 sc) 6 times. 30
R10 – 30 sc
R11 – (3 sc, dec) 6 times. 24
R12-R13 – 24 sc
R14 – (sc, dec, sc) 6 times. 18

Sl st and fasten off. Leave long tail for sewing and add stuffing

Small gill – make 4

R1 – 7 sc in a magic ring
R2-R5 – 7 sc.
Sl st and fasten off. Leave a long tail for sewing and stuff lightly

Big gill – make 2

R1 – 7sc in a magic ring
R2-R6 – 7sc
Sl st and fasten off. Leave a long tail for sewing and stuff lightly

Tail

R1 – 4 sc in a magic ring
R2 – (sc, inc) 2 times. 6
R3 – 6sc
R4 – (sc, inc) 3 times. 9
R5 – 9sc
R6 – (1 sc, inc, 1 sc) 3 times. 12
R7 – 12 sc
R8 – (1 sc, inc, 1 sc) 4 times. 16
R9 – 16 sc.
Sl st and fasten off. Leave a long tail for sewing and stuff

Tail detail

Ch 7
Skip first ch the (3dc in the next ch, sl st in the next ch) 3 times
Sl st and fasten off. Leave long tail for sewing.

Assembly

  • Sew the head to body stitch by stitch
  • Sew the arms right under head about 5 stitches apart
  • Sew the legs middle of around R5-6 and about 7 stitches apart
  • Sew the big gills with the middle level with the eyes and about 3 stitches behind the eyes.
  • Sew two small gills on the top and the bottom of the big gills on either side of the head
  • Sew the tail to the bottom of the body and add the tail detail.
