a. Cut ten lengths of String Macramé, 70” long.
b. Collect the pieces, and thread them through a wooden ring. Slide the wooden ring to the midpoint of the String Macramé, and fold the strings in half.
c. Cut an additional 18” inch length of String Macramé.
d. Holding the grouping of pieces in your left hand, place the end of the 18” piece alongside the other strands.
e. To create the wrap knot, close your hand around the bundle of pieces, and bring the end of the 18” piece up over your fingers.
f. Bracing the bundle of pieces with your left hand, using your right hand to wrap the 18” piece around the bundle. 6 times.
g. Insert the end of the single piece you’ve wrapped through the loop, and carefully pull the top piece. Then, pull both ends taut.
h. Cut off any excess and gently prod the ends into the wrapped bundle to hide.
a. Divide the String Macramé lengths into six groups of three. Collect the pieces that naturally rest together, and clip them in place. There should be two lengths left over.
b. Braid the groups of strands 5.5” down, clipping it at the bottom. Try to keep consistent tightness throughout braiding.
a. To add the first hoop (8”), unclip one of the braids. Put two of the strands in front of the hoop, and one of the strands behind.
b. Twist the two strands twice, and then incorporate the third strand by braiding down an additional 2.5”. Replace the clip at the bottom.
c. Take the strand directly opposite to the first strand, and repeat steps a) and b). Repeat the steps for the remaining strands, until all six strands are attached to the hoop.
a. Cut a length of String Macramé, 50” long.
b. Using a piece of tape, wrap one of the ends into a point. This will allow the beads to be threaded onto the length of yarn more easily.
c. Thread the taped end through the knot where it intersects with the embroidery hoop. Pull through, leaving a 5” tail.
d. Starting with the round beads, alternate adding four small round beads, and three barrel spools to the length of String Macramé. Push them to the end.
e. Thread the taped end through the next intersection, and repeat until all spaces are filled.
f. Tie a knot, and cut off any excess string. For extra security, you can add a dollop of craft glue to the string. The knot will be covered by trim later.
a. Repeat Step 3a, but instead of braiding down an additional 2.5”, tie a knot. Make sure the knot is placed on the inside of the embroidery hoop. Cut off the excess, and put it aside for later.
b. With the strand directly opposite, repeat Step 3, braiding down all the way to the end.
c. Alternating tying a knot, and braiding down 8”, fill-in the remaining strands.
a. Tape the ends of the two centre strands together.
b. Slide on a 1” bead up near the top.
c. Tie a knot 5.5” down. It should rest between the two embroidery hoops. Slide the wooden bead so it rests on the knot.
d. Add a wooden ring 4” down from the knot. Take the ends of the strands, and loop them through opposite sides of the ring.
e. Bring the strands back up. Using one of the strands, make a loop behind the central strand.
f. Take the other strand and make a loop in front of the central strand.
g. Pass the ends through the opposing loops, and pull tight. Repeat the same knot.
h. Cut off the excess, and seal with a small drop of craft glue.
a. Taking the strands from Step 5a, set one of them aside. Loop the rest through the wooden ring and fold them in half.
b. Using the leftover strand, create a wrap knot by repeating Step 1a-h.
c. Cut the pieces so they are 4.5” long
d. Brush them out for a more textured look, and trim the ends evenly.
a. Cut 3 pieces of your contrasting yarn, each 15” long. Tie and glue them onto the larger embroidery hoop in the spaces without the braids.
b. Optional Step: If you are adding Hot Fix gems, place them before gluing the trim onto the embroidery hoop. For the thinner trim, place them every four pompoms. For the fringed trim, please them at the top of every other fringe.
c. In small sections, use craft glue to glue the trim onto the embroidery hoop. Use clips to secure the trim, taking your time to make sure it doesn’t move.
a. Using your contrasting yarn, create three pompoms. To make pompoms by hand, hold your non-dominant hand into a peace sign. Hold the strand of yarn with your thumb, and gently wrap it around the tops of your fingers 60 times. Reduce the amount of times for a thicker yarn.
b. Carefully pull of the bundle, holding it together. With a separate piece of yarn, tightly tie the middle of the bundle.
c. Cut through the loops on both sides, and fluff out the pompom. Trim the yarn to a consistent length. The more you cut off the fluffier the pompom will be.
a. Add tape to the bottoms of the braided strands. Put two 1” beads onto each braid.
b. Take off the tape and un-braid the strands so that the braid is 9” long.
c. Tie two knots, and gently slide the lower wooden bead onto it. Make sure that the wooden bead doesn’t come off. Brush out the tail and trim so it’s 2.5” long.
d. Create a magic slip knot at the bottom of the pink yarn lengths, and tighten it around the pompoms. Cut off the excess.
