Step 2: Preparing Unit (A)

Spread the fabrics out in a colour rotation that is pleasing to your eye, following the order provided:

x

1. Sew top squares together, and then the bottom two squares together with ¼” seams.

2. Then sew the top row to the bottow row.

Step 3: Preparing UNIT (AB)

Sew the 2.5”x4.5” pieces to the opposing sides of the 4-patch UNIT (A), forming UNIT (AB)

x

Step 4: Preparing two UNITS (CD)

Sew the 2.5”x2.5” UNIT (C) (corner pieces) of (5) background solid fabric to each end of UNIT (D).

x

1. Sew top squares together, and then the bottom two squares together with ¼” seams.

2. Then sew the top row to the bottow row.

Step 5: Combining All Units Together

Sew UNITS (CD) to the top and bottom of UNIT (AB). This combined unit should measure 8.5”x8.5”.

x

Step 6: Cut the Background Fabric

Take the two large 7.5”x7.5” solid background fabric pieces (5) and cut them each once on the diagonal, creating four triangles: UNIT (E)

x

**Tip: if you fold the block and the triangle in half and slightly crease the middle, it will make it easier to centre them before sewing, or match the triangle’s point to the centre of the UNIT (A) centre block. Trim the tails flush of the two triangles with the edge of the block for less bulk.

Step 7: Assembling the Final Block

Sew the four triangles on the remaining “corners”. Trim block so it finishes at 12.5”x12.5”.

See diagram below for sewing order to make it easier to follow along:
