Step 2: Creating the Half Square Triangles (HST)

Take one square of Fabric (A) and one of Fabric (B).

Right sides together, draw a diagonal line from opposite corners on the back of the Fabric (B).

x

Sew a line 1/4” away from each side of the drawn line.

Cut on the drawn line between the two rows of stitching.

x

Now you have two HST (Half Square Triangles). Press and trim these pieces to 4 ½” x 4 ½” squares.

x

Repeat the steps above combining:

  • Another two squares, one of Fabric (A) + Fabric (B)
  • Two squares, one of Fabric (A) + Fabric (C) (x2)
  • Two squares, one of Fabric (C) + Fabric (D)
  • Two squares, one of Fabric (B) + Fabric (D)

Step 3: Assembling the Rows

Place the HST squares into the formation below:

Sew the HST squares of each row together using a ¼” seam allowance.
