How to Cut a Perfect Quilting Square

Using the right tools for cutting fabric can make such a difference when you're prepping fabric squares for quilting.

Tools to Use:

What You Do:
  1. Take your pre-ironed fabric, and align it with the grid lines on your cutting mat.
  2. Fold the fabric in half with the selvage edges together.
TIP: If you don’t have a straight edge to start with, gently pull the fabric in different directions to help determine which way the grain is running.
  3. Use the grid lines on your cutting mat to align the fabric to a corner, and then trim off the selvage.
  4. Next, measure your desired width, and cut a strip of fabric, rolling the rotary cutter away from you applying even pressure as you go.
  5. Finally, rotate the strip 90 degrees and cut across at the same measurement to create your square. Just like that, you’re ready to sew.
