How to Hem Jeans

Hemming pants is an easy process, and we’re going to show you how! All you need is a needle and thread, but pins are helpful too. If you’re a sewing newbie, grab a starter sewing kit, from your local Fabricland, as it will have all you need and more!

  1. Thread your needle, and fold the edge up to where you want to shorten.
  2. Add pins to help hold it in place. Insert your threaded needle right below the edge of the hem going through both layers.
  3. In the same direction, push your needle back through the fabric and pull though.
  4. In between your last stitch, insert your needle and create another stitch, pushing through to the other side. Pull through and repeat.
  5. It should look like this on the other side.
  6. Once you’ve sewn the entire thing, fold the pant into itself to reveal your seam.
  7. With the pants inside out, attach the excess material to the leg using tiny stitches. They should be so small that they aren’t visible from the other side.
  8. Iron the pants, and you’re ready to wear!

NOTE: The seam allowance can be changed depending on your project.
