Dip Dye Skeleton Arms

Add some C O L O U R to your spooky Halloween decorations with help from Rit®!

What You Need:

  • Rit® DyeMore™ for Synthetics, Racing Red, Super Pink, Royal Purple.
  • Pot for Dyeing
  • Plastic skeletons arms
  • Tongs
  • Rubber Gloves
  • Acetone
  • Measuring Cup and Spoon
  • Plastic Table Cover
  • Paper Towels

What You Need:

  1. Wipe plastic with acetone and paper towel to remove any manufacturer’s finishes that may interfere with dye absorption.
  2. Fill the pot with enough water to dip half of the plastic skeleton arm and heat to roughly 200ºF / 93ºC or greater.
  3. When water begins to simmer, add ¼ cup of well-shaken Super Pink DyeMore™ for Synthetics and stir well.
  4. Wearing rubber gloves pick up the skeleton with tongs and carefully dip ½ of it into the dyebath. Keep the plastic skeleton dipped for 10-15 minutes depending on the thickness of the material. Thicker plastics may need more time in the dyebath. Continue stirring to avoid harsh dyelines from forming, this is important in order to create a smooth gradient.
  5. Once desired colour is achieved, remove from dyebath and rinse in cold water.
  6. Flip the dip dyed skeleton arm and dip the other end into the same dyebath for half the time to create the gradient.
  7. Repeat steps with Racing Red and Royal Purple to create multiple shades.
