What you need:

Abbreviations

  • Ch – chain
  • St(s) – stitch(es)
  • Sc – single crochet
  • Inc – increase
  • Dec – decrease
  • Hdc – half double crochet
  • Dc – double crochet
  • Sl st – slip stitch
  • BLO – back loop only
  • 3LO – third loop only
What You Do:


Basket

Using yarn colour of your choice:
R1: 6 sc in magic ring
R2: 6 inc (12 sts)
R3: (sc, inc) 6 times (18 sts)
R4: (2 sc, inc) 6 times (24 sts)
R5: (3 sc, inc) 6 times (30 sts)
R6: (4 sc, inc) 6 times (36 sts)
R7: sc BLO all sts
R8-14: sc all sts
Switch to green yarn. Attach with a sc.
R15: sc 3LO all sts
R16: (4 sc, dec) 6 times (30 sts)
R17: (3 sc, dec) 6 times (24 sts)
R18: (2 sc, dec) 6 times (18 sts)
Add stuffing.
R19: (sc, dec) 6 times (12 sts)
R20: dec all sts (6 sts)
Sl st, pull tight to close, and fasten off. Weave in ends.

Strawberry

Using red yarn:
R1: 6 sc in magic ring
R2: 6 inc (12 sts)
R3: sc all sts
R4: (sc, dec) 4 times (8 sts)
R5: sc all sts
Stuff lightly.
R6: dec all sts (4 sts)
Sl st, pull tight to close, and fasten off. Weave in ends.

Vine

Using green yarn:
Attach with a sc at the top of the strawberry.

  • In the same st, work (sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc). Repeat in the next 2 sts (3 leaves)
  • Sl st into the top center of the leaves
  • Ch 6, in the second ch from the hook, work (sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc), sl st into the next st
  • Ch 10, in the second ch from the hook, work [sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc], sl st into the next st
  • Repeat the last step as many times as desired to lengthen the vine

Hanging Strap

Place 3 stitch markers evenly around the top edge of the basket.
Using the basket colour yarn:

  • Attach yarn with a sc at one stitch marker
  • Ch until the length is double your desired hanging length
  • Attach to the second stitch marker with a sl st. Fasten off and weave in ends
  • Reattach yarn with a sc at the third stitch marker
  • Ch until it is half the length of the first chain

Fasten off and cut yarn.
Fold the first (long) chain in half to form the hanger. Wrap the second (short) chain around the top to secure and create a loop. Adjust as needed so all sides are even. Tie securely and trim any excess yarn.

Finishing

Sew daisy or flower buttons of your choice onto the top of the basket and along the vines.
