Pinecone Ornament

When crafting with pinecones found “in the wild” it’s always your best bet to prep them well, to remove any sap or pests, before starting your projects.

Here are three options you can use:

🎄 Soak your pinecones in a 50/50 vinegar/water solution for 30 minutes. After rinsing well, lay them out to dry fully before using.

🎄 Freezing your pinecones for 24-48 hours is another way to prep them. This works best if you are concerned with pests, and want your craft critter-free. Allow your frozen pinecones to thaw to room temperature before using.

🎄 Another method, which is popular, is baking your pinecones on a parchment or foil lined baking sheet. Be mindful of this method, and keep watch over your pinecones so they don’t burn. You only need to bake them for about 30 minutes in a 200F oven. Lining your baking sheet will make for easy clean up. Once baked, allow your pinecones to fully cool before using.

Happy Crafting!
