Crocheted Raffia Bag


Add a crocheted paper bag to your list of DIYs for summer!


What You Need:


Abbreviations:

  • Ch – Chain
  • Sc – Single Crochet
  • Sl st – Slip Stitch
  • St – Stitch

To Make the Base of the Bag:

  • Ch 10.  Add more stitches for a bigger bag.
  • R 1 – sc into 2nd chain from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1
  • R 2-46 – ch 1, turn, sc across

To Make the Body of the Bag:

  • R 1 – sc into the side of each row, sc across foundation ch, sc into side of each row, sc across, sl st.
  • R 2-6 – ch 1, turn, sc around, sl st
  • Change yarn colour.
  • R 7 – ch 3, *skip one st and dc into next st*, repeat from *to* till the end of the round. sl st.
  • R 8-20 – ch3, dc in next st, *ch 1, dc in next st*, repeat from *to* all around till the end of the row, sl st.
  • Change yarn back to base colour.
  • R 21 – ch 1, sc into each ch and dc st across till the end of the round. Sl st.
  • R 22 – ch 1, sc across, sl st.
  • Fasten off and weave in loose ends.

To Make the Base of the Bag:

  • Cut two straps to preferred length leaving enough extra length to make a secure knot on each end.
  • Add purse straps through R21 by figuring where you want them to go on either side and inserting the trim through between the sts and making a knot on the inside of the bag to secure it.
